A Facebook post by Liz Smith, a former student, friend, and a very prominent Columbus attorney. Thanks, Liz, for letting me share it. I strongly support, as many of you know, a responsible two party system. There are serious issues that need to be looked at from different angles and evaluated through different lenses.
So GOP, we don’t censure President Trump for insulting women or the disabled, for using poor judgment in having the Jan. 6 rally, or for refusing to accept the election results and insulting the judicial system, but we censure leaders who stood with his policies and who stand for Republican principles but who express their points of view. Shame on you for doing what you tell others not to do or fail to stand up for what is decent and civil. You claim First Amendment rights but shut down those who express a view different than yours. I stand with Gonzales and Cheney. And I liked many of Trump’s policies but could not approve of the man. Chastise me all you want; I’ve earned my right to speak up because I’ve lived and worked hard for Republican principles which now seem to have disappeared. How does the party have the right to censure someone who represents their constituents and have not expressed violent or unAmerican ideals like some others in the party? If there is a silent majority, now is the time to speak because the party is almost gone. I will not be characterized as you all have allowed us to be painted: as racists, not believing in tested science, and those without passion or care. By your insensitive harsh words and insensitive inaction, you’ve allowed that narrative. Where are the leaders? Where are those who know how to get people on their side and make a difference, those with oratorical skills? And why are we shutting down the younger generation? Questions and no answers. Sounds like the GOP has a death wish.
Liz's commentary is spot-on...thanks for sharing!
