Cooperation is not the same as collaboration. This may seem a play on words. It is, however, a distinction I think worth making.
We humans are fundamentally “makers.” We put things together in patterns and build what we can envision.
Cooperation, to me, is another way of saying don’t get in my way and I’ll make a better mousetrap. Collaboration is a reaching out to others to find shared interests and work together. Say, raising a barn. Or working on a project, a policy, a problem.
Sharing ideas is both harder and more rewarding than going it alone.
In the political world it is called democracy.
