“Head in the sand?” Trying to avoid the rowdies on the beach? Take it out. What’s happening is urgent. We don’t live on a beach or in a desert. Or not yet.
“Head in the clouds?” Looking at the sky? Space exploration is exciting, but don’t let it get in way of the here and now.
Don’t head for the exits because you don’t like what is coming at us down the road. There are no exit lanes. Invite the person next to you to help.
We all wear labels and we take them too seriously. Our values and beliefs unite us far more than they divide us. Be the first to reach out an open hand. What’s coming at us is the future not a welcome home parade.,
Ingenuity, rational thinking, imaginative ideas, considered patience, timely interventions! We are not so much armed for battle with the future as we are trained and skilled in the use of powerful intellectual tools to work with others to shape that future.
By reading this far, I suspect you’ve guessed my intent. It’s a follow-up to what I wrote a couple of days ago. I’m still affirming what many dismiss out of hand. We of different political persuasion (yes, Trump supporters and “liberals”) will find common ground and work on real problems, together—if we get our heads out of the sand and down from the clouds.
