Am I Hearing this Right
Providing assistance for families to put food on their table for their children is wrong because increasing consumption will cause INFLATION?
I have many friends that are Republicans. I respect them and their political beliefs. There is a great overlap of agreement. But …..
Come on now. Too much is, well, too much. When the “loyal opposition” criticizes legislation (child credits) that is PROVEN to have put food on the table of many poor households, and brought millions above the poverty level, and say WHAT?
Here’s how their argument goes. (1) The Biden administration provides more money for poor families, (2) the families spend it and buy food for their children and (3) Republicans in Congress criticize the policy because it increases consumption and as consumption TEMPORARILY gets ahead of production there is a rise in prices. (Only one of the reasons, I grant.)
Of course, rather than call it a stimulus for production and more jobs (hopefully better paying), they yell INFLATION and then a name-call I wish people wouldn’t use until they understand it, SOCIALISM.
Farce can go only so far and we have to cancel the show.
Well, of course, not all Republican think this way. In fact it is more a wakeup call for Republicans than for Democrats. These are your leaders. They are making a fool of themselves. “Toddler” Gate? Good grief, Charles Brown.
Take back your party. We need two responsible political Parties. We need a responsible government. And as a first start, take the bad actors off the stage. I’ve laughed at politicians. It’s American—Will Rogers, Sam Clemons. But, if you give us clowns, then at least make us laugh, not cry.
I couldn't agree with your words more. It has always been a balancing act. Folks want a roaring economy with low inflation on costs but increases in wages. If at any point in time you don't have all 3 they blame the administration in the White House. The President actually has little control of the economy which is global not just national. What should the priority be in one of the richest countries in the world? I would certainly hope that ensuring children have food to eat would be at or near the top! I would call that Christian not Socialism.
